The Transcript of { Yueh-Tao answer Li-Hui 3 }
Li-Hui: When I was a kid, I often saw the photos and asked ... yeah, and dad would say, those were the photos of us going to Green Island and Orchid Island...
Yueh-Tao: Right … on that trip we went to Orchid Island first and then went to Green Island (Li-Hui: Yes, I knew that) ...no we went to Green Island first and then Orchid Island.
Li-Hui: Okay we went to Green Island first and then Orchid Island... before going to view the exhibition site, I went home to look for the photos of that family trip to Green Island. The photos that I remembered you and dad telling me about... anyway... I found four or five of them... when I went to view the exhibition site, I showed those photos to the local staff on Green Island ... after looking at all of the photos with her, I discovered that these were photos taken in Taitung Airport and Orchid Island, but none of them were taken on Green Island...
Yueh-Tao: There were no photos taken on Green Island because ... at that time I wasn’t sure if the camera... I didn't know if the camera was running out of power or not.... you couldn’t buy any batteries, so you couldn’t take any pictures as well. That might be it.
Li-Hui: I asked you this before...about the photos. I remember that... it seems that in the photo of us and Japanese doctor, the view behind us looks like Orchid Island (Yueh-Tao: That's right, that's right). We actually didn’t hang out with him on Green Island, right? We knew him from... Where did we meet him?
Yueh-Tao: Supposed be ... on the flight from Green Island to Orchid Island.
Li-Hui: On the small plane?
Yueh-Tao: Around the time that we were taking the flight together... we were taking the flight together to Orchid Island, we met him at the airport and we went there together.
Li-Hui: I didn’t realize that until I asked the staff this time… I always assumed that those photos might have been taken on both Green Island and Orchid Island… and later I figured out that they were all taken… on Orchid Island. Therefore, the photo of us and Japanese doctor was also shot on Orchid Island.
Yueh-Tao: Right, right ... probably because...because back then there were no cell phones (for photo-taking), all we had was a camera. When we arrived at Orchid Island...no, at Green Island, maybe the battery for the camera ran out of power, and there was nowhere to buy batteries, so we couldn’t take pictures.
Li-Hui: But the last time I asked you about this, you told me that might be because there was nothing to see (and to be worthy to take photo of).
Yueh-Tao: Uhh … there was not totally nothing to see, no matter how ...if my camera had functioned well, I would have taken at least one or two shots, but due to the camera being out of power, and there was nowhere to get a new battery, so I had to give up and nothing was left. We only walked a bit along the outside of the Green Island Prison.
Li-Hui: I took ...those photos that we have in our house with me and showed them to the staff at Green Island. I asked her...there is a photo of me standing in front of a lighthouse, and I asked her that if it was a time that the lighthouse on Green Island was red, because the lighthouse behind me in the photo is red... She said no... she said the lighthouse on Green Island has always been white. Therefore, the lighthouse (on Orchid Island) should be red, the lighthouse on Orchid Island may have been red at one point in time, but the one on Green Island has never been red.
Yueh-Tao: Yeah, just like what I just told you, when I went to Green Island, maybe because... the camera was out of power! That’s why I didn't take any photos.
Li-Hui: Fine, I heard you. Just saying that I thought … for sure you guys used to tell us that those photos were taken on that family trip (Yueh-Tao: They were), so I kind of assumed that some of them might have been taken on Green Island, and then I found out that all the photos I thought might have been shot on Green Island were taken on Orchid Island.
Yueh-Tao: Right! Because the camera was out of power when we went to Green Island, so we couldn’t take pictures. That’s what happened.
Li-Hui: Okay, okay, I got it (Yueh-Tao: No Battery!). Anyway, I already learnt that all of those were pictures of Orchid Island... later on I tried to search if there were any other photos of the five of us on Green Island... I can't find any, not seeing any yet…
Yueh-Tao: Yeah, there were some photos of Green Island, but those were the photos when we revisited Green Island many years later.
Li-Hui: Those should be the photos of you and dad, or dad and uncle... cause the five of us never went there together again.
Yueh-Tao: No, except for that family trip.
Li-Hui: Oh... okay
