 (Phone dialing beeping)

Ying-Wu: Hello?

Li-Hui: Hi dad, is mom there?

Ying-Wu: Uh... Li-Hui? Mum... (Go to Yueh-Tao to tell her answer the phone)

Yueh-Tao: Hello?

Li-Hui: Mom? Can I record the call now?

Yueh-Tao: Okay... fine.

Li-Hui: Mom, how did you meet Dad?

Yueh-Tao: I met your dad through your uncle, aka Lin Tai-Chin, he introduced your dad to me. And Lu Zhao-Lin had a relatively long sentence, so he knew both your dad and uncle...

Li-Hui: You mean that Lu Zhao-Lin stayed longer on Green Island. When uncle was there, he was there as well and afterward when Dad was there, he was still there...

Yueh-Tao: Right, Lu Zhao-Lin stayed there for longer so he knew both of them.

Li-Hui: Why did you want to marry dad?

Yueh-Tao: Because your uncle said that your dad was very nice, and then Lu Zhao-Lin also said that your dad was a good person. For me, as long his character is not bad, that's good enough. So that’s why.

Li-Hui: Wait a minute. They didn't introduce other people in Green Island to you then? (Yueh-Tao: No) They only introduced dad to you?

Yueh-Tao: Yes...because your dad’s age was...because your uncle and his peers were around seventeen to eighteen years older than me. And your dad… even though your dad is nine years older than me, we are still relatively close in age.

Li-Hui: We have some photos in the house, and you and dad would show them to us (me and my sister), saying they were taken on the trip to Green Island and Orchid Island. Why did we have a family trip to Green Island at that time?

Yueh-Tao: Because I knew that your uncle was in jail on Green Island for a long time, so was your dad. I didn’t know what Green Island looked like at that point and I wanted to visit it. You were probably only three or four years old at that time, a little older than you sister, and your sister was still very young. So I thought that we would bring you two with us there together.

Li-Hui: Did you see anything when you were on Green Island?

Yueh-Tao: Green Island...I didn’t see much there...At that time, the roads there hadn’t been well-developed… there were driveways, and probably hot springs on Green Island, but that hot spring was in the sea without being developed or constructed yet. We just stood on the road, seeing the hot spring from a distance, “oh that place is the place of Green Island Hot Spring”… but we couldn't get there.

Li-Hui: I asked dad before, it seems that this trip was the first time dad and uncle had gone back to Green Island after they were released from jail.

Yueh-Tao: Right… your uncle was sent to jail way before your dad, he was one of people in the early stage (being brought to Green Island) .... at that time the road around the island hadn't been widened or fixed yet, your dad (a slip of the tongue, should be uncle) and his peers used to do some road construction around the island...

Li-Hui: You said that wrong, should be uncle, not dad.

Yueh-Tao: Right, I meant your uncle... it was years before your dad went there. When your dad got there, he was in the prison all the time without being outside at all...

Li-Hui: I did ask dad about his impression of that family trip. He actually replied me the same as what you told me before. Both of you said that there was not a lot to watch.

Yueh-Tao: There was pretty much nothing there besides the prison, because it hadn’t been developed yet... not much developed, it was in a relatively primitive status.

Li-Hui: Okay… do you have any impressions of that trip?

Yueh-Tao: Pretty much like that... when we went to... there was a Japanese doctor flying with us on the small plane. Our family had... four people, and the small plane could only take seven passengers at a time, including the Japanese doctor...

Li-Hui: No... there were five people in our family

Yueh-Tao: Our family had one, two ... your uncle and dad and me ... right we had five in our family, plus the doctor from Japan … anyway, it (small plane) could only carry seven people. Back then... you two were really young and very cute. The Japanese doctor was very amused by you and played with you a lot. He even wrote to us after he went back to Japan...

Li-Hui: When I was a kid, I often saw the photos and asked ... yeah, and dad would say, those are the photos of us going to Green Island and Orchid Island...

Yueh-Tao: That's right, pretty much like that.
